The sun had set below the horizon of the Pacific Ocean about 20 minutes before, and the sky was growing darker. But there was still enough light to shoot coastal scenes as we drove southward on the Pacific Coast Highway. From a couple miles down the shore, I looked back and saw the layers of twilight color over Pigeon Point Lighthouse, and used a telephoto lens to bring the scene together. The lighthouse looks lonely on this horizon, shining its quiet beam into the descending darkness.
