Petit Manan Light is in a lonely spot, three miles into the Atlantic Ocean from the rocky shores of eastern Maine. The conditions in this photo are common — Petit Manan Island is reputed to be one of the foggiest places in the region. Therefore, quite obviously the light station was equipped with a foghorn as well.
