In order to photograph Rose Island Lighthouse in the best light, I slept over on the island — in the lighthouse. As with anyone who wishes to sleep at Rose Island Light, a boat picked me up in Newport Harbor in mid-afternoon, dropped me on the island, and retrieved me late in the morning of the next day. After a dinner of fresh steamed mussels collected from the light's pier, I went to bed prepared for a pre-sunrise awakening to photograph this stunning location.
