Portland Head Lighthouse is most often photographed from a spot on the coast about 250 yards to the right of where I made this photo from. In fact, it's a pretty famous lighthouse just because of that spectacular angle. But lighthouses are so often photographed alongside rocks (and inclement weather, as well). What I see less often is the beacons paired with a boat – protector and protected in one photograph. So that’s what I did while trying to avoid the usual angle of Portland Head Light, the oldest light in Maine. (I sort of did the same with “Mist, Boat and Rose Island Lighthouse, Rhode Island,” but that boat/light pairing was an apparently failed relationship.)
