This photo is a dichotomy of photographers' luck and talent. I saw the marble sunset sky, I saw the majestic lone tree in a Cades Cove pasture, and I knew I had the makings for a fine photograph. What I didn't see was the black bear a hundred yards in front of me in the field. I was so busy photographing the sunset that I hadn't even known the bear was there until a passing tourist asked if that's what I'd been photographing.
