Seeing a sun this big sink into the Gulf of Mexico, one almost expects the water to boil, the horizon to steam. From the shores of Marco Island in western Florida, the sun sets in a miraculous display almost every day. In this case, the island almost missed the show; the sun was behind clouds right up until its scheduled departure. With about five minutes to go, the sun moved below the cloud line, lighting the rims of the clouds from underneath and silhouetting the waters of the gulf below.
