The USS Yorktown (the fourth ship of that name in U.S. Navy history) was born into World War II, served almost 30 years, and was decommissioned a few days after my parents got married and a little more than a year before I was born. I feel a personal tie with this aircraft carrier because Dad was a career Navy man; one of my best childhood memories is visiting the Yorktown with my family, and my dad telling me about parts of Navy life that were not included in the official tours.
