Making this photo of a wave washing away footprints in the sand wasn't as easy as it might seem. I'd spent the whole morning photographing along the shores of the Outer Banks, culminating in a search for footprints that were close enough to the water to be in depressed deep into wet sand, but far enough away to let me set up the camera and tripod and wait for a wave to wash away the evidence of the passed-by biped. It took awhile. In the end, though, I got what I was looking for, albeit with enough time to fire only two frames — one of which perfectly capturing the scene in the side-light of an Atlantic Ocean morning.
