Photographs such as this silhouetted tree in front of the Great Smoky Mountains, as seen from Newfound Gap, are more difficult to make than they appear. To get the foreground and background in focus, you need to use a small aperture on your lens; that means you have to use a slow shutter speed; which means you need to wait excruciatingly long to make your photo, or else the mountain wind with blur the rustling leaves.
