The Mersey Bluff Lighthouse is famous for its vertical stripes, and it was the first spot I went to photograph upon arriving in Tasmania in late January 2001. It turned out that they picked the day I was in town to re-paint the lighthouse. At first I was disappointed. But then I decided to make good on my "misfortune." After all, how often do you get to photograph a lighthouse being painted?
