One of the hardest parts of working in a desert environment is that you have to pre-plan so much. Normally I'd walk around to examine all the angles of subject before I set up to make the photos. But doing that on sand creates lots of footprints, which I don't want in the photo. So, as in this case when I was working in Australia's Pinnacles Desert, I have to stand back and anticipate the best angles, then walk in carefully so as not to disrupt the scene I want to photograph.
