This was some of the most fun I've had while doing nature photography. Another photographer and I awoke at dawn to be the first people to see the elephant seal colony at Ano Nuevo, California, that day. We had to hike a mile over sand dunes to get there, but were treated to a photographers' delight: a beach deserted except for us and the elephant seals.
