For about six years I searched, on every winter shoot, for a scene that I could use for a panoramic Christmas card. Every year I came up empty - until the last Connecticut snow storm of the 2008-'09 winter. This row of small pine trees in an otherwise empty field dazzled me - the contrast of tones in the scene, the way the lines of treetops mirror the edge of the field, the marble effect of the snow on the needles.
