The opportunity for this picture of a sunset in Vermont's Worcester Mountains presented itself to me by surprise. I was actually driving through the hilly farmland terrain looking for a site to photograph a rainbow that was slowly fading in the eastern sky. I drove around a bend that revealed a clearing in the trees to my left, framing the mountains and the clouds and the sun. The exposure and framing took some work, and when I was done the rainbow behind me had vanished. But I think the resulting photo was worth the effort.
